Enjoy miles of sandy trails that weave through cottonwoods, willows, and sand dunes at this oasis in the desert.

Delta Camp is located on the far south end of the Lahontan State Recreation Area in Silver Springs and is managed by Nevada State Parks. From the equestrian campground, you can ride for miles on a variety of trails that follow the Carson River to Lahontan Reservoir.
Bird watchers will love this area, which is renowned for its birds. Keep an eye open for pelicans, herons, egrets, hawks, and a variety of other species. Lahontan is a nesting site for bald eagles which can often be spotted perched high in the trees that dot the reservoir’s shoreline.
Campground
This off-the-radar campground sits on the banks above the Carson River. It has six connected horse stalls – two large and four small. They are very well built. There is no water on-site, but the river is easily accessible for water for your horse. Though, in some drought years, late in the summer season, this stretch of the river can run dry.
There is a pit toilet next to the horse stalls, as well as a picnic table. There are numerous campsites around the corrals, each with a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. The large parking area features long, wide lanes – perfect for pulling a large rig through.
No reservations are required for the campground. It is very seldom used so you will most likely have it to yourself. Enjoy the quiet and the lots of stars!
Trails
Delta Camp is a great basecamp for several days of riding. There are many sandy roads to choose from. Nothing technical, no elevation. Just nice riding through the high desert. You can make loops any number of ways by following the river or heading out into the brush. This is a nice area to just tool around and see what you find. It’s easy, uncomplicated riding.
In wet years, some areas around the river can be flooded or muddy. Alternatively, in drought years, you can ride the river bed itself. Occasionally wild horses will come through here. There are also porcupines, fox, and deer in the area. Fall is a lovely time to ride when the cottonwoods change colors to gold. This area gets very little snow so it’s also great for winter riding. In the spring, it can be quite buggy so spray is recommended.
